When Sarah and Alan first reached out to me, they shared that after decades together and raising two wonderful young men, they had finally decided to get married. Rather than a huge celebration, they wanted an intimate ceremony surrounded by the people they love most, and honestly, they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect setting than a Tretower Court wedding.

Tucked away amongst the Brecon Beacons, Tretower Court and Castle already feels like somewhere out of another time. The ancient stone walls, the orchard, the castle itself every inch of it holds some magic. And for Sarah and Alan’s day, that magic only felt amplified.

Of course every wedding is special, but there are always certain moments that stay with me long after the day is over. One of those moments from this wedding was the beautiful favours Sarah and her Mother created together. They carefully made tiny parcels filled with seeds, each tied with handwritten notes featuring quotes from literature, songs and poems. Every quote connected in some way to spring, nature or magic, themes that ran so beautifully throughout the entire day.

While we waited for Sarah’s arrival, her nieces gently tied the little parcels throughout the orchard trees at Tretower Court. Then after the ceremony, as the wonderful musical duo Nastee Chapel played and guests wandered into the orchard, everyone took time to stroll through the branches reading the notes and choosing the one that resonated most with them. Watching people quietly connect with the words and take home their chosen parcel felt so heartfelt, thoughtful and wonderfully whimsical.

The ceremony itself was incredible. The room where Sarah and Alan married was breathtaking! A medieval space filled with stunning architectural details everywhere you looked, from earthy wooden beams to enormous leaded windows flooding the room with soft light. Delicate fabric swagging and fairy lights softened the ancient surroundings perfectly.

And these two… they smiled from ear to ear the entire ceremony.

There were so many laughs shared between them and their guests, and it was impossible not to feel how deeply loved they both are. You could see decades of partnership, friendship and devotion in every glance they exchanged.

Afterwards, guests gathered in the courtyard ready to witness Sarah and Alan jump the broom before being showered in confetti. I absolutely loved seeing these nods to ancient traditions woven into the day so naturally. It all felt incredibly personal and intentional.

The couple have asked me not to share photographs where their guests faces are clearly visable to respect everyone’s privacy, which of course I completely honour. But this part of the day was filled with warm embraces, storytelling, laughter and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you what weddings are truly about.

While guests enjoyed music, drinks and celebrations in the courtyard, I stole Sarah and Alan away for portraits beside the 13th century castle. This is always one of my favourite moments during any wedding day. Not only do I get some quiet time with the couple to create beautiful portraits together, but it also gives them a chance to pause for a moment in the middle of such a whirlwind day.

And honestly, Sarah looked like she’d stepped straight out of a medieval fairytale. Sitting amongst the castle ruins in her beautiful gown and flower crown, she looked completely at home within the ancient surroundings.

The evening celebrations continued just down the road at Nantyffin Cider Mill, where the couple gathered with loved ones to share food, stories and celebrate this new chapter together. I stayed briefly to capture the beautiful details, the flowers, table settings and a lovingly handmade wedding cake created by Sarah’s Mother. The cake perfectly reflected both Sarah’s connection to nature and Alan’s love for mountain climbing, another thoughtful detail woven into such a deeply personal day.

A Tretower Court wedding already feels magical, but Sarah and Alan filled the space with so much warmth, love and intention that it became something truly unforgettable.
